Travel to learn new ideas

Shared Global Vision –

Travel to learn new ideas

I have been in my new country for two years as I write this.

I have only recently discovered a language teacher who can teach me in the ways I prefer to learn.

I am grateful, even though I was figuring out ways to get around without knowing the language.

I used one of the on-line translators, wrote down the translation and showed it to the people I needed to do business with.

It is better, now that I am learning how to interact in my new language, of course.

I continue to travel to more new places and am always delighted to learn new things.

There are particular ways of setting a table for lunch and for dinner.

There are particular combinations of foods at different times of the day.

There are ways in which people interact, different courtesies to respect, and traditions in carrying out certain activities.

There are always food traditions.

It is wonderful to discover these little things while visiting the historic sights.

I enjoyed learning a traditional embroidery pattern in a cultural class.

When I went to a store to buy more red thread, the ladies wanted to see my work and passed it around.

It was a way of bonding through respect and participation in another culture.

I still want to return to finish my project.

When I travelled to take a weaving class on a traditional loom, I enjoyed my walk past the local plants and shrubs.

Even travel to the next city by train provides a new aspect.

I enjoyed the lunch I had with new international women friends, the setting on the beach, and the tour of a friend’s new apartment.

I am preparing to travel to another new country to visit a museum, where I do not know the language.

After that, I will be guided to connect with my flight, the local trains and the trains across three countries on the way to a sewing class in a fourth country.

I am taking deep breaths as I pack and anticipate my experiences and delightful new friends.
