The long life of service

Healing Messages 1.212 – The long life of service

Service to others expands our life’s goals.

We  may feel a certain sense of accomplishment as we meet our own goals through the years.

It is good to discern what we can do to help improve life for others.

Dr. Muhamed Yunus, the father of “microcredit”, for which he won a Pulizer Prize in Economics, says that poverty can become a thing of the past and should have a museum dedicated to it.

Habitat for Humanity, which has made it possible for people to become homeowners by helping build houses, was started in Atlanta.

Dignity Villages help people who have become homeless, transition into tiny homes.

Many entrepreneurship opportunities have begun through service to others.

What are your gifts, talents, desires?

Can they help transform society?

Community Gardens and Food Forests have come out of community action.

Meals-On-Wheels, taking hot meals to homebound elders, broke their isolation by giving them conversation along with a meal.

A local Office of Economic Opportunity was started by two women, one a fund-raiser, the other a social worker, to help people who were jobless transition back into work with weekly support including for three months after they had found a job.

A Swedish organization helps people get off the streets and supports with them with whatever services are needed until they can reestablish themselves.

There is so much compassion magnified through these organizations.

The Transition Town movement was founded by a permaculture teacher who wrote “The Transition Handbook”, which explains how to build community resilience in the face of peak oil and climate change.

Does your own vision of success allow you to expand it to others?

My own profession of teaching music helps children learn to keep a beat which helps them learn to read. I am working on ways to expand access to it.

We all have the opportunity to expand our consciousness and to discern needs and how to meet them in uplifting ways.

Each step, and the steps are always tiny steps, can take us toward the goal of helping to improve the lives of others.
